In Italy, marteloscopes are one of the most useful tools to communicate and teach how conservation of biodiversity can be integrated in traditional forestry practices.
In the past years, the Pennataro (south Italy) marteloscope, developed by University of Molise, was used as an outdoor laboratory to implement teaching activities with students and forest practitioners.
In the meantime, a team of forest researchers from University of Molise set up a new marteloscope within the Riserva Naturale Regionale Selva del Lamone (Lazio, Italy) in cooperation with the reserve staff. Aiming at jointly developing this new marteloscope, personnel from the reserve and researchers shared ideas and methods in order to support sustainable forest management and the implementation of the Italian national forest strategy.
