About us
Our impact

For the Integrate Network, impact is about more than numbers: it is about building a long-term European space where biodiversity, sustainable forest management, and practical decision-making can meet. Over the past decade, the network has turned shared methods, good practice examples, demonstration sites, publications, and training into a living infrastructure for learning and exchange.
Network reach
The Integrate Network now connects over 300 demonstration sites across Europe, making it one of the most extensive practical learning networks for integrative forest management. These so-called marteloscope sites create a shared field-based reference point, a place for learning and knowledge exchange for foresters, researchers, educators, policymakers, and conservation actors across countries and forest types.
Capacity building
A key part of our impact lies in facilitating the “learning by doing” principle, where skills and knowledge can then be passed onwards. Through formats such as “Train-the-Trainers” workshops, Annual Meetings, field visits and webinars, we strengthen the capacity of practitioners, policymakers, students and other forest-related “multipliers” to work with integrative forest management in their own contexts.
Knowledge products
The network’s publications turn scientific research and experience from the field into knowledge that others can use, adapt, and build on. From foundational books and technical outputs to tools and documentation, these materials help translate integrative forest management into practical guidance that holds long-term value.
Practical influence
What makes the Integrate Network unique is its ability to connect biodiversity conservation and forest management through real sites, data, and training. Marteloscopes and related tools allow users to test management choices in practice, showing how integrative approaches can support decision-making in complex and diverse forest landscapes, and bring together conflicting demands from various interest groups.
Growing legacy
The Integrate Network has played a significant role in supporting innovation, collaboration, and knowledge transfer across a wide range of European forest and biodiversity projects. They, for instance, have tapped into the Integrate practice network to test new management approaches, apply and further develop the marteloscope training software, improve stakeholder engagement, enhance forest resilience, and promote the integration of biodiversity conservation into practical forest management. As a result, the legacy of Integrate continues to extend far beyond the original project, contributing to a growing community of practice across Europe.
